The Gridiron Club of New Canaan recently presented the New Canaan Museum and Historical Society (“NCMHS”) with a generous donation from proceeds of Gridiron’s annual show. This year’s April 2026 event recognized Robert P. Doran for his exemplary community service over the past forty years in New Canaan, and Bob selected NCMHS as the beneficiary based on his long-time experience with and commitment to the organization. Together with individual donations in honor of Bob, the Gridiron event raised more than $19,000 for the Museum. Founded in 1889, NCMHS owns or operates 11 museums and historical sites in New Canaan, maintains an extensive research library, holds educational programs and events, and helps to build an awareness of and appreciation for the rich history of our town.
Bob Doran has been an active volunteer over many years with multiple organizations in town, including The Town Players, New Canaan Community Foundation, and New Canaan Chamber Music. He served with distinction as the Gridiron Club’s Emcee for twenty years. Bob has also helped raise millions of dollars for area non-profit organizations, and has been recognized for his efforts by Norwalk Hospital, New Canaan Health and Human Services, and Moffly Media’s Light a Fire.
The Gridiron Club of New Canaan is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to honor local citizens who have dedicated years of community service to the town of New Canaan. The annual Gridiron Show is a one-time event, open to the public, and net proceeds from ticket sales each year are donated to a charity of the honoree’s choosing.
