New Canaan Democrats Endorse Lamont for Third Term as Governor

By Michael Dorfsman

On the strength of his successful record as governor, the New Canaan Democratic Town Committee announced it has voted to give its strong endorsement for Gov. Ned Lamont’s election to a third term.

Gov. Lamont has bolstered the state’s solid fiscal position and is committed to continuing to lower costs for working families, targeting childcare, healthcare, housing and education as “essential building blocks for a strong economy and stronger communities,” the committee said.

“In a time when Connecticut families are challenged by the electric utility costs, Ned’s plan to control energy costs puts ratepayers first,” said Tim Klimpl, chair of the Democratic Town Committee. “His plan aims to protect consumers from shouldering unreasonable utility costs, imposes strong oversight and transparency by regulators and encourages competition by supporting investment in energy and alternative technologies, while improving reliability.”

With a focus on education, Lamont is calling for continuing the steps already taken to increase access to early childhood education, addressing the growing strain of special education costs on families and towns by increasing state support and improving the outcomes for students at all grade levels, the New Canaan Democrats said, recognizing the emphasis the town places on education.

On housing, the committee said, Lamont is committed to increasing housing opportunities to meet economic demand, while working collaboratively with communities to ensure smart, responsible growth.

“Finally, as the administration in Washington is intent on undermining fundamental rights and freedoms by challenging election integrity, rewriting history in schools and museums, forgetting that the nation was founded by immigrants, erasing civil rights protections and weakening protections and rights for members of the LGBTQ community, Gov. Lamont is committed to standing up for fundamental national values and protecting Connecticut values,” Klimpl said. “We are pleased to support the governor and will be working tirelessly throughout the town to ensure that Ned is able to continue the progress the state has achieved in his first two terms.”
