Her exacting illustrations have been exhibited in several one-woman shows including The Hunt Institute\, Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh\, New York Botanical Garden\, and The Smithsonian Institution. She is an active member of the American Society of Botanical Artists.\nLes Beaux Arts Gallery is located at the Round Hill Community Church\, 395 Round Hill Road\, Greenwich. SUMMARY:Street Smart: Photographs of New York City\, 1945-1980 @ The Bruce Museum
DESCRIPTION:Presented with support from The Charles M. And Deborah G. Royce Exhibition Fund and the Connecticut Office of the Arts.\nIn the decades that followed World War II\, New York City became a world cultural center and was host to a whirlwind of activity: jazz music by legendary practitioners like Charlie Parker and Ella Fitzgerald\, feminist and anti-war protests\, Stonewall riots in Greenwich Village\, and race riots in Harlem. James Baldwin once called the city “spitefully inconsistent” and Le Corbusier described it as a “beautiful catastrophe.” During the time showcased here\, photographers raced around the city\, capturing both cacophonous scenes of urban life and moments of quietude and respite from the chaos.\nThis exhibition features 30 photographs\, chiefly drawn from the Bruce Museum’s permanent collection\, including work by Larry Fink\, Herman Leonard\, Leon Levinstein\, John Shearer\, and Garry Winogrand. Street Smart provides a glimpse at life in the city during the post-war period and at how street-savvy New Yorkers navigated its bustling landscape.\nThe exhibition is curated by Mia Laufer\, PhD candidate at Washington University in Saint Louis and Bruce Museum Zvi Grunberg Resident Fellow 2015-16. \nStreet Smart: Photographs of New York City\, 1945-1980\, essay by Mia Laufer – click here to read.\nDetailed museum hours/special closings: https://brucemuseum.org/site/visit_us#hours

SUMMARY:Canvas and Cast: Highlights from the Bruce Museum’s Art Collection
DESCRIPTION:William Merritt Chase (American\, 1849-1917)\n Young Girl\, c. 1900\n Oil on canvas\, 30 x 25 in.\n Bruce Museum Collection 2002.31\nFebruary 11\, 2017 – June 18\, 2017\nPresented with support from The Charles M. and Deborah G. Royce Exhibition Fund and the Connecticut Office of the Arts.\nIn October 1912\, the Bruce Museum hosted its first exhibition of art. At the time\, the Greenwich Press noted that it was a welcome change to see “a long gallery hung with paintings from the best works of local artists.”\nSince then\, the Bruce Museum has not only exhibited many paintings and sculptures by local artists who were influential in establishing the American Impressionist movement\, such as Theodore Robinson\, John Henry Twachtman\, Leonard Ochtman\, and Frederick Childe Hassam\, but has also acquired works that represent significant moments from the history of art.\nFeaturing 35 paintings and 7 sculptures from the Bruce’s growing collection\, Canvas and Cast celebrates long-time favorites and many recent acquisitions representing significant moments in the history of art from the 16th through the 20th centuries. This exhibition\, organized by Peter C. Sutton\, The Susan E. Lynch Executive  Director\, and curated by Courtney Skipton Long\, Zvi Grunberg Postdoctoral Fellow 2016/17 at the Bruce Museum\, examines art historical themes including sculpted and painted portraits\, narrative scenes and statues\, landscapes\, still lifes\, and genre scenes.\nCanvas and Cast explores artists’ handling of different media – bronze\, marble\, oil\, pastel\, acrylic and collage – through examples of 16th-century Dutch portraiture\, 19th-century American figural sculpture\, academic style painting\, and French and American landscapes from the turn of the 20th century.\n\nAuguste Rodin (French\, 1840-1917)\nThe Kiss (Le Baiser)\, 1886\nBronze\, 23 ½ x 16 x 20 in.\nBruce Museum Collection 94.24\n \nDetailed museum hours/special closings: https://brucemuseum.org/site/visit_us#hours\n

SUMMARY:Last Days of Pangea: In the Footsteps of Dinosaurs @ The Bruce Museum
DESCRIPTION:Postosuchus skull\n One of the largest carnivorous reptiles during the late Triassic\, Postosuchus grew to 13 feet long.\n Bruce Museum Collection Photo by Paul Mutino\n\n\n\n\nNovember 19\, 2016 – July 16\, 2017\nSupported by the Deborah G. and Charles M. Royce Exhibition Fund\, Connecticut Office of the Arts\, and a Committee of Honor.\nLast Days of Pangea highlights local discoveries that place the Connecticut Valley at the epicenter of one of the most dramatic eras of prehistory. Two hundred million years ago\, early dinosaurs lived alongside bizarre reptiles on the supercontinent Pangea.\nThese denizens of “Triassic Park” included armored crocodile relatives\, long-necked reptiles that swam like frogs\, and a unique lizard-like animal that glided on a membrane supported by outstretched ribs.  They wandered the region\, leaving footprints along the muddy lake shores and skeletons in the sandy floodplains. Unbeknownst to these creatures\, the age of Pangea would soon come to a violent end.\nAs the Triassic Period gave way to the Jurassic Period\, the Earth itself split open along a seam that ran through the center of Connecticut\, unleashing a massive flood of lava that triggered extinctions throughout the globe. In the aftermath\, dinosaurs rose from humble beginnings to launch a 135-million-year reign.\nThis exhibition explores the geological record of the sundering of Pangea and showcases fossils ranging from tiny oddballs to ferocious predators.\nVisitors will encounter: \n\na life size cast of Postosuchus\, a 12-foot long bipedal relative of modern crocodiles that kept early dinosaurs off the top of the food chain\nCoelophysis\, a primitive dinosaur once believed to have eaten its own young\nfleshed out life reconstructions created for the exhibition of eight species including the gliding Icarosaurus and armored Stegomus\nhistoric footprints collected from throughout the Connecticut Valley in the 1800s including those of our Connecticut state fossil: the dinosaur track Eubrontes.\n\nLast Days of Pangea: In the Footsteps of Dinosaurs is organized by the Bruce Museum and curated by paleontologist and Bruce Museum Curator Dr. Daniel Ksepka with assistance from Paul Griswold Howes Fellow Kate Dzikiewicz. \n\nThe large dinosaur footprint Eubrontes was the first known dinosaur track discovered in North America and is the state fossil of Connecticut. SUMMARY:Discussion on the NEC FUTURE plan to install High Speed Rails
DESCRIPTION:Greenwich Preservation Trust invites the public to attend a meeting regarding a discussion on the NEC FUTURE plan to install High Speed Rails that will be devastating to our community and change our standard of living forever. The rails will run along the I-95 corridor from New York to Boston. From the sketchy maps we have received\, the segment in Greenwich will run from the Cos Cob Railroad Station over and by the Greenwich Historical Society campus and Mill Pond dam and then through the new Mead Avenue/River Road historic District and then through historic neighborhoods in Riverside and Old Greenwich and homes along Byram Road and portions of Byram Park. The project will destroy our historic landmarks not to mention the havoc it will cause to our land\, air\, water and sound pollution.\n \nWe have invited the Ct. Trust for Historic Preservation Greg Stroud and colleagues  to come and discuss this most destructive DOT plan.
