DESCRIPTION:Owls are a majestic and mysterious bird\, rarely seen in the middle of the day. After several magical encounters\, Karen was called to start painting these birds. She aimed to paint them to honor who they are and what they signify. The owl is a symbol of knowledge\, strength\, and intuition.   The art process is spontaneous and calls for the use of mixed media; the artist feels as though these birds paint themselves. Color is paramount and is dictated by the mood of the owl: playful\, smart-ass\, powerful\, shy\, attitude. Oil\, acrylic\, pastel\, ink\, fabric\, and newsprint can be found in these pieces.

SUMMARY:3rd annual PHENOMENON: Science Innovation Fair
DESCRIPTION:The Bruce Museum will host the third annual Phenomenon: Science Innovation Fair on Friday\, June 2. This juried scientific competition features ten science research projects by regional high school students in grades 9 – 12. The public is invited to attend and discover the innovative and inspiring work being done by these students. The topics range from new work with Lyme disease\, zika virus\, and cancer to novel ideas in energy conservation and environmental technology. \nJudging and open viewing is held from 5:00 to 7:20 pm\, followed by an awards ceremony and keynote speech from 7:30 to 8:15 pm. Visitors can vote for their favorite science project. Generous cash prizes will be awarded for first\, second and people’s choice awards. The event is underwritten an anonymous donor. \nGreenwich High School students Shobhita Sundaram and William Yin will share the Bruce Museum’s 2017 Award for Phenomenal Young Scientist and delivery of the keynote address. Both have been invited to this year’s Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in California. Each has taken top honors in the state and beyond this year for their research – Sundaram is investigating pancreatic cancer detection and Yin is working on Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis. \nThe science fair is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:It’s time for the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance 2017\, June 3-4 at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.\n2017 will be the 22nd Greenwich Concours! Recognized as one of the premier concours in the country\, Greenwich is unique in that it is two concours back to back. Saturday is the Concours Americana for American cars and motorcycles\, while Sunday is the Concours International for imported marques.\nOn both days there will be displays of new cars including BMW\, Cadillac\, Lincoln\, Tesla\, Jaguar\, Land Rover\, Miller Motorcars – with Ferrari\, Bugatti\, Pagani\, Alfa Romeo\, Aston Martin\, McLaren\, Bentley and Maserati\, and Manhattan Motorcars – with Lamborghini\, Rimac and Koenigsegg. There are even opportunities to test drive some of these amazing new vehicles. We will also have incredible yachts from Castaways Yacht Sales\, Louis Marine\, Comitti and Destino displayed at the Delamar Hotel docks.\nSaturday features a circle of supercars\, both American and foreign. There will also will be the first ever Hot Rod Class and a sure-to-please display of children’s cars. Saturday’s ticket also allows you to preview all of the cars in the Bonhams auction tent. At 11:30 there will be a special presentation on hot rods and custom cars by Wayne Carini\, Ken Gross\, Rick Dore and Rob Ida. Be sure to join us Saturday night for the gala party at the Greenwich Delamar Hotel\, with a sumptuous buffet and luxurious yachts.\nOn Sunday\, we welcome the American Bugatti Club\, with more than 20 Bugattis scheduled for the show. Sunday will also feature racecars from the Lime Rock Historic Festival.
