SUMMARY:The International School at Dundee's Around the World 5K Run and Kids Obstacle Course
DESCRIPTION:The 5K Race starts and ends at ISD\, with a gentle course through residential streets surrounding the school. Two water stations will be provided for runners along the course\, and all pre-registrants will receive a race t-shirt. Medals will be provided to top three finishers in many categories. A fun obstacle course\, for kids 13 and under\, will be set-up on the ISD playground. Age and grade-level loops will be offered for kids\, with obstacles including hurdles\, tires\, a climbing wall\, hay bales and more.\nThe event\, which will be held rain or shine\, is open to the public with all proceeds benefitting PTA-sponsored curriculum enhancements. Registration for the 5K is $25 after Sept. 5. Kids Obstacle Course registration costs $15 after Sept. 5. All kids will receive a fun finisher’s prize. Race day registration is $30 per person.\nPre-registration is available at ISDPTA.ORG/5K.

DESCRIPTION:Western Middle School will host the first-ever “Greenwich Playing For Change Day” on September 24\, 2016\, 2:00-5:00pm. “Playing for Change Day” is a worldwide event promoting global music education. The free\, family music festival will include Curiosity Concerts’ season opening concert at 3:00pm featuring the South American-infused Atacama Ensemble. The day also includes the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra’s Storytime Quartet “World Music Tour” narrated by Eddie Pleasant (at 2pm)\, as well as music education workshops and student recitals (throughout the afternoon). Workshop highlights include a Young People’s Drum Circle presented by Music Together of Fairfield County\, and a parents workshop “Practice Revolution” presented by Heather Watson of the Greenwich Suzuki Academy. DESCRIPTION:Curiosity Concerts is a series of free family concerts presented by professional musicians at different venues in the Greenwich\, CT area. Concerts are 50 minutes long and are designed to inspire parents as well as their children of any age (but your child should be able to enjoy an hour of music). The Atacama Ensemble showcases Latin American and Andean music. All members have mastered multiple instruments and are outstanding classical and folkloric musicians. Their repertoire includes rhythms like the Huaynos\, Sayas\, San Juanitos\, Diabladas\, and Joropos as well as Afro Peruvian music and Andean fusion. The instruments featured by this ensemble include sikus\, toyos\, rondadores\, quenas\, tarkas\, charangos\, Venezuelan cuatros and percussion such as bombo and Peruvian cajón in addition to classical flute\, voice and guitar.
