SUMMARY:Bobcats: Our Feline Neighbors
DESCRIPTION:Connecticut’s Bobcats are wild feline neighbors who have found themselves right at home in Greenwich. We seldom see them because of their elusive nature\, but Bobcats are widely distributed across the state. They are a crucial part of our local ecosystem’s balance\, as they help manage populations of small mammals and rodents. Thanks to new research on the movements of these special animals in Connecticut\, we are discovering how Bobcats navigate through our neighborhoods\, and learning more about how we can help them survive alongside us. \nMelissa Ruszczyk of the Connecticut DEEP Wildlife Division will join us to share a report of their work tracking Bobcats with radio collars. They have tracked Bobcats throughout the state\, including at the Greenwich Audubon Center. In this informative presentation\, Melissa will share their research findings as well as key insights on these elusive animals’ lives. \nBobcats are a highly misunderstood species\, which can sometimes lead to fear of them. In reality\, they pose no direct threat to humans\, so we hope this program will help clarify myths about Bobcats and help people feel more comfortable with their presence. We will share photos and videos of these beautiful creatures\, including ones we have observed right at the Greenwich Audubon Center! We hope you will join us\, and that you will gain a new appreciation for our wild feline neighbors. \nProgram Fee: $10 and up (Please only register through our official registration page provided below)\nAll ages are welcome\nPre-registration is required.\nFor questions\, please contact Ryan MacLean at Ryan.MacLean@audubon.org or 203-930-1353.\nUpon registering\, you will receive a link to access this event on Zoom.\n
