SUMMARY:"Resilience" Documentary and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this timely documentary and discussion with Dr. Alice Forrester\, Executive Director at Clifford Beers Clinic in New Haven\, CT \nThis one-hour documentary delves into the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the birth of a new movement to treat and prevent Toxic Stress. One of the leading causes of everything from heart disease and cancer to substance abuse and depression\, extremely stressful experiences in childhood can alter brain development and have lifelong effects on health and behavior. Experts and practitioners profiled in RESILIENCE are proving what’s predictable is preventable. These physicians\, educators\, social workers and communities are using cutting edge science to help the next generation break the cycles of adversity and disease. \nDr. Forrester is widely viewed as a thought leader in her field. She has served on multiple local\, state and national councils including the National Child Traumatic Stress Network Steering Committee\, the State of Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership Oversight Council\, the Sandy Hook (CT) Commission\, and the City of New Haven Substance Abuse Council. Dr. Forrester was appointed by Gov. Dannel Malloy to the Sandy Hook Commission following the 12/14/12 mass shooting tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. \nFor more information contact darlak@fccog.org.

SUMMARY:Nature’s Best Hope: An Evening with Doug Tallamy
DESCRIPTION:The Greenwich Botanical Center’s Nature’s Best Hope: An Evening with Doug Tallamy! \nJoin Doug Tallamy as he presents his new book: Nature’s Best Hope \nRecent headlines about global insect declines\, the impending extinction of one million species worldwide\, and three billion fewer birds in North America are a bleak reality check about how ineffective our current landscape designs have been at sustaining the plants and animals that sustain us. Such losses are not an option if we wish to continue our current standard of living on Planet Earth. The good news is that none of this is inevitable. Tallamy will discuss simple steps that each of us can- and must- take to reverse declining biodiversity and will explain why we\, ourselves\, are nature’s best hope. \nThis event will take place at Greenwich Academy’s Massey Theater.

SUMMARY:A JOURNEY -- Kimberly Wilson
DESCRIPTION:Kimberly Wilson’s original musical one-woman show is an intimate and powerful exploration of history and the black woman’s experience. Kimberly Wilson tells of the struggles and influence of black womanhood with courage\, dignity\, faith\, hope\, and strength in perfect lockstep with the history of the United States. \nFollow eight women in eight pivotal generations as she presents their stories through song\, movement and monologue. \nJoyful celebrations and painful reflections tell a story of persistence and courage\, and how black womanhood\, not always intricately woven into the fabric of American history\, is an important thread that weaves the tapestry together. \nAfter each performance\, the audience is invited to stay for a brief talk-back\, extending the impact of this theatrical experience. \nA JOURNEY runs approximately 75 minutes\, with no intermission.
