SUMMARY:In Plain Sight: The Greenwich Library Print Collection at the Flinn Gallery
DESCRIPTION:The Flinn Gallery is pleased to present the second part of our In Plain Sight exhibition\, The Greenwich Library Print Collection\, opening on Thursday\, February 6\, 2020. \n  \nAcquired through gifts and purchase\, these 35 works on paper have all previously been seen on the walls of the library.
Not merely placed there for decoration\, the works enhance the library’s learning spaces and encourage creative thinking. In this exhibition\, we celebrate the combined commitment both the Greenwich Library and the Flinn Gallery have made to lifelong learning that goes beyond books and includes visual arts. \nThe Library’s Print Collection originated at mid-century\, through the efforts of the “Print Committee of the Friends\,” subcommittee of the Friends of the Greenwich Library.
The committee acquired prints\, intended for the Lending Art Program\, from galleries including Associated American Artists which introduced fine art\, in the form of prints\, to a middle-class audience.\nCoinciding with post-war suburban growth\, and new developments in print technology and experimentation\, the committee was able to build a significant collection for the Greenwich community to enjoy.

Ranging in date from 1950-1980\, and including a variety of print methods\, these artworks were borrowed for local offices and homes for many years. Over time\, as individual prints were deemed too valuable or fragile to circulate\, they were hung on the library’s walls instead. \nThe show’s opening reception will be held Thursday\, February 6\, from 6-8pm. The Flinn Gallery\, sponsored by the Friends of the Greenwich Library\, is located on the second floor of the library’s main branch at 101 West Putnam Avenue\, Greenwich CT. The gallery is open daily Tuesday to Saturday 10-5\, Thursday until 8\, and Sunday 1-5. For more information\, please call the gallery: 203.622.7947

SUMMARY:Bruce Presents: NFTs: Separating the Myth from the Moment
DESCRIPTION:NFTs: Separating the Myth from the Moment is the latest installment of the Bruce Museum’s acclaimed speaker series Bruce Presents: Thought Leaders in the Fields of Art and Science\, which has presented in-person and online events since 2019. \nJoin the Bruce Museum for this online\, live-streamed Zoom webinar on June 16\, 2021\, at 7 pm.  Tickets are free for Bruce Museum Members; $20 for non-members. \nBruce Presents producer and panel moderator Leonard Jacobs conceived of the topic in response to his own growing curiosity about\, and fascination with\, the NFT movement. “If you’re paying even slight attention to the rejuvenating art world in 2021\, the topic of the non-fungible token is\, indeed\, not fungible. It’s utterly real; it’s radically remaking the business of art at the same time as the aesthetics of the work itself. Nor is the heft of the NFT limited to art: look at music\, look at video and film\, look at brands and corporate identity. They’re all starting to get the NFT lift.” \nBruce Museum COO and Managing Director Suzanne Lio\, co-creator of the Bruce Presents series\, added\, “What’s most remarkable about the emerging NFT world is that it has been emerging for some time. It’s just in the last year or two that the mainstream art world has caught up with the vanguard in a significant way\, which tells us something about the power that can result when you marry technological innovation with artistic skill and the desire to effect radical change.”

SUMMARY:Cloak and Dagger Book Club
DESCRIPTION:The Staff and Friends invite mystery and crime lovers to our monthly book club. It is currently led by the lively members themselves. \n\nThis month’s selection is Death in Brittany by Jean-Luc Bannalec.\n\n\nCommissaire Georges Dupin\, a Parisian-born caffeine junkie recently relocated from the glamour of Paris to the remote (if picturesque) Breton coast\, is not happy when he is dragged from his morning croissant and coffee to the scene of a curious murder. The local village of Pont-Aven–a sleepy community by the sea where everyone knows one other and nothing much seems to happen–is in shock. The legendary ninety-one-year-old hotelier Pierre-Louis Pennec\, owner of the Central Hotel\, has been found dead.
