The Connecticut Art Education Association announced that thirteen of New Canaan High School students earned awards in various categories for Honorable Mention, Silver Key, and Gold Key.
Mia Lockyer, Cara Passios, Isabella Sarracino, Henyerson Tolentino, and Kailey Marti distinguished themselves by securing Gold Key awards. Notably, Cara Passios also garnered the Connecticut Arts Administration Association’s Best in Photography Award. These Gold Key recipients have earned the opportunity to have their work judged at the national level.
The high school’s art department, led by Jennifer Sinski, Maggie Pennoyer, and Kimanne Core, plays a crucial role in fostering the talents of these young artists. Sinski told the Sentinel that the faculty focuses on encouraging originality, technical skill, and the development of a unique creative voice in their students. The department selected 30 exemplary pieces from student projects in December, submitting them for state-level consideration.
The recognition received by these students is a reflection of their dedication and creative vision. The art teachers at New Canaan High School expressed their delight in the students’ accomplishments, emphasizing the hard work and originality that went into their creations.
Further celebrating the artistic talents of its students, New Canaan High School plans to showcase all entries, along with other remarkable student art, at the annual high school exhibition “Through Our Eyes.” This event will be held at the Carriage Barn Arts Center in March, offering a broader audience an opportunity to appreciate the depth of talent within the school.
The success of New Canaan High School students at the Connecticut Regional Scholastic Awards highlights the significance of arts education and the remarkable achievements that can result from dedication and support within the school community.
