Farmer’s Market

By Julie O’Brien Deasy

Question: When is the Farmers Market opening this year?

Answer: This question came at the perfect time, as the Farmers Market is opening for the season TOMORROW this Saturday, April 20! As in previous years, it will be located in the Lumber Yard Lot (near the Train Station) at 244 Elm Street.

The Market is open every Saturday, rain or shine, from April 20 until December 21, 2024.

Each week, local farms will offer organic fruits and vegetables, pasture raised beef, pork, poultry, lamb, and eggs, gourmet mushrooms, herbs, potted plants, and flowers, farm-raised fish, local honey and pollen, hydroponic microgreens, handcrafted small batch goat’s milk soap, and more.

In addition, there are a wide variety of prepared foods and specialty services each week – including many New Canaan favorites and also some new additions!

Prepared foods include Bistro Du Soleil, Bongo & Capacci Gourmet Pasta, Badass Bagels, Wave Hill Breads, East Coast Kombucha, Empanadas on the Go, Emalyn Sweets and Chocolates, Grumpy Dumplings, Ivy’s Gourmet Granola, Bees Knees Ice Pops, Michelle’s Pies, Wonderland Jam, Mama Hu’s Sushi Bake, Paul’s Custom Pet Food, Pedals Smoothies and Juices, Spacecat Brewery, and many more.

The Farmers Market is a great place to grab lunch every Saturday as there are so many choices and something for everyone.

The Market also has several special events planned throughout their entire season.

April 20, opening day, will also feature an Earth Day Celebration, and there will be live music from Henry Jones on May 4. On May 11, the Market will celebrate Mother’s Day.

As in past years, advance ordering of items for pickup will be available. Visit the Farmers Market website for a list of vendors who offer advance purchasing, as well as links to place those specific orders. All pre-orders must be placed no less than 24 hours before the Market begins.

If you are a senior who needs a volunteer to pick up your purchase at its designated time, contact the Human Services (203) 594-3076. Please note this program is only for New Canaan residents.
