Staying Put in New Canaan, the non-profit that helps New Canaan seniors stay confidently in their homes and connected to the community, is looking for volunteer drivers. It’s a flexible and gratifying experience for volunteers that significantly impacts the quality of life for local residents.

Staying Put drivers help members get to medical appointments, classes, do grocery shopping, or other odds and ends in and around New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Darien and Wilton. Our drivers log in to a ride requests platform to sign up for rides that fit into their schedules.

Susie Catlin, a volunteer driver and native New Canaanite notes, “I really enjoy the conversations, hearing about members’ families, past careers, travel and interests. Everyone is so appreciative and thankful that they have an organization like Staying Put at their fingertips!”

Driving opportunities match Staying Put office hours: Monday-Thursday 9am to 5pm and Fridays 9am-1pm. Volunteers can choose to assist whenever it’s convenient — whether that’s a few times a month or a few times a week. Volunteers must have their own vehicle with current and sufficient insurance, a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Staying Put in New Canaan is part of the national aging in place movement to help seniors stay in their homes and the community as long as possible. A significant concern as people grow older is that they may have to leave their home, which means leaving behind a comfortable setting, familiar community, and memories. One’s home provides a strong sense of control and security. Staying Put provides senior members with important services which allow them to maintain independence and self-sufficiency.
