Volunteer Service Award

Young Women in the New Canaan Chapter of the National Charity League were recently honored with the 2023 President’s Volunteer Service Award. The PVSA is a national award which honors individuals and groups who meet certain criteria and “whose service positively impacts communities…and inspires those around them to take action.” Awardees receive a medal, personalized certificate, and congratulatory letter signed by the President of the United States.

National Charity League is a philanthropic and leadership organization for mothers and daughters who serve local and national philanthropies. The six-year program runs from seventh through twelfth grades.

NCL, New Canaan Chapter individual awardees for 2023 include Teddy Smedley (Gold award for 110.25 hours of service) and Chandler Wagner (Bronze award for 56 hours of service). Recipients of the “NCL, New Canaan Chapter Distinguished Service Group” award (Gold level for a combined 346.75 hours of service and at least 25 hours each) include: Lucy Casey, Sophie Dunlap, Izzy Kittredge, Emma Row, Teddy Smedley, Chandler Wagner, and Tema Wagner.

Service offered by these young women ranged across dozens of organizations from packing Filling in the Blanks meals for children dealing with food insecurity to participating in Sports Buddies programs with children who have special needs to playing games with and delivering flowers to seniors with the Waveny LifeCare Network. In the words of Leah Kittredge, NCL, New Canaan Chapter President: “We’re proud of the service the young women in our chapter give so willingly. These young women who go above and beyond are especially deserving of being honored for their contributions to improving lives in the community around us.”
