Rams Football Over Ludlowe 30-14, Set Sights on Undefeated Staples

In a pivotal Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) matchup on October 5, 2024, the New Canaan Rams secured a 30-14 victory over the Fairfield Ludlowe Falcons, improving their record to 3-1 for the season. The Rams’ disciplined execution and resilient defense were instrumental in staving off a determined Ludlowe team, which also entered the contest with a 3-1 record.

The Rams set the tone early, with quarterback Luke Robinson connecting with Simon Tchakarov for a 4-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter. Tucker Stevens, who would play a critical role throughout the game, added the extra point, giving New Canaan an initial 7-0 lead.

Fairfield Ludlowe responded in the second quarter, with Liam Bond powering through for a 2-yard rushing touchdown, followed by a successful extra point from Miko Mirano to tie the game at 7-7. However, New Canaan quickly regained the momentum as Henry Stein broke through for a 4-yard rushing touchdown, with Stevens adding the extra point to put the Rams back on top.

Stevens extended New Canaan’s lead to 17-7 with a 33-yard field goal later in the second quarter, demonstrating accuracy and poise under pressure. With mere seconds left before halftime, Robinson found Charlie Koch for a 9-yard touchdown reception, capped off by another Stevens extra point, pushing the Rams’ advantage to 24-7.

In the third quarter, Ludlowe tried to claw their way back, as Bond punched in his second rushing touchdown of the game from 1 yard out, narrowing the gap to 24-14. Mirano’s extra point cut the deficit, but Ludlowe’s efforts to swing the momentum were thwarted by the Rams’ consistent defense and special teams.

Stevens’ reliable kicking continued to bolster New Canaan’s lead, as he nailed a 34-yard field goal late in the third quarter. He would later seal the game in the fourth quarter with an impressive 45-yard field goal, bringing his tally to three field goals on the day and finalizing the score at 30-14.

The Rams’ defense held firm in the closing minutes, preventing any late scoring surge from the Falcons. With the victory, New Canaan prepares to host the unbeaten Staples Wreckers on October 19.
