No. 1-ranked Darien defeated No. 2 New Canaan

In a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s Class LL final, No. 1-ranked Darien defeated No. 2 New Canaan 9-2 at Dunning Field on Thursday, May 1, asserting dominance in draw controls and executing a stifling defensive game.
Darien led 2-0 at halftime, struggling early to get past Rams goalkeeper Ceci Patterson, who recorded 12 saves. The Blue Wave broke through in the third quarter with five goals, led by senior Katie Walsh’s four-goal performance and a goal and assist from junior Anna Von Kennel.
New Canaan’s Ashton Pinkernell and Sydney Patten scored the Rams’ only goals in the third quarter. Despite the loss, head coach Kristin Woods said she hopes to have several injured starters return before a potential postseason rematch.
