Softball
In a tightly contested conference tournament matchup on May 27, the New Canaan varsity softball team fell just short against St. Joseph, losing 2-1 on the road.
St. Joseph struck first, scoring a run in the opening inning. New Canaan answered in the second, tying the game 1-1. But the Cadets regained the lead in the fourth inning and held on for the rest of the game. Despite only collecting two hits, the Rams kept it close thanks to strong defense and disciplined pitching.
Final Score: St. Joseph 2, New Canaan 1
Rams finish the game with 2 hits and 1 error, while St. Joseph tallied 6 hits and played error-free ball.
Volleyball
New Canaan’s boys volleyball team crushed with back-to-back victories in a crucial week.
On May 27, they faced Trumbull in a conference showdown and came out on top with a gritty 3-2 win. The match went the distance, with the Rams grinding out the deciding set to seal the win.
Two days later on May 29, New Canaan kept the momentum going in a neutral-site playoff matchup against Staples. After dropping the second set, the Rams regrouped and finished strong to win 3-1. Set scores were 27-25, 12-25, 25-19, and 28-26, showing just how close and hard-fought the match was.
Boys Lacrosse
In perhaps the most dramatic game of the week, New Canaan boys lacrosse pulled off a 7-6 overtime victory over rival Darien on May 27 in a home conference matchup.
In a highly unusual twist, neither team scored in regulation. The entire game went scoreless through four quarters, setting up an overtime period in a nil-nil game. New Canaan finally broke through in OT with a golden goal to secure the win, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
This defensive slugfest will go down as one of the most memorable matchups between the two programs and sets the Rams up with momentum heading into the State championships.
Girls Golf
On May 28 at the Country Club of New Canaan, Lauren Livesay delivered under pressure. She shot a 79 (40 on the front, 39 on the back), tying Ellery Talbot of Greenwich after 18 holes. The tie led to a sudden-death playoff, where Livesay won by parring the first hole.
New Canaan had a strong team showing overall:

Maxie Mirin posted an 87 (41-46)
Lily Mohr finished with a 92 (43-49)
