To the Editor,
I’m writing to invite and encourage our community to attend the 9th Annual Community Addiction Awareness Vigil held by the New Canaan Parent Support Group on Wednesday evening, August 27th. If you’ve been to the Vigil before, you know it is a truly memorable event, gathering a wide cross-section of our community to increase awareness of addiction and come together in hope. Each year, I am inspired by the large crowd that joins together to address this critical local issue.
The Vigil celebrates recovery and spreads awareness about the reach of addiction, but I find that it touches so much more – mental health, stigma, wellness, family, belonging. Each year, the love and connection at the event is palpable.
New Canaan Community Foundation has been a proud co-sponsor of the vigil since its first year in 2017. Coordinated by the New Canaan Parent Support Group, a team of dedicated volunteers plan for months to ensure each vigil highlights important stories, offers resources, and serves as a special setting to both remember people lost too soon as well as inspire hope for others on their journey. This year’s theme – Sharing Stories Saves Lives – will resonate with many and, as always, the event is for all ages.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to feel the energy, love and connection at the vigil at the pop-up park space at the intersection of Elm Street and South Avenue – it’s an event everyone in our town should experience at least once! I hope to see you there on August 27th – the evening begins with live music starting at 6:15pm, followed by testimonials at 7pm.
Sincerely,
Lauren Patterson
