The New Canaan YMCA proudly introduced its new Community Cupboard last month, a year-round satellite location for food donations in partnership with the New Canaan Food Pantry. As part of the Y’s commitment to social responsibility, this initiative is designed to directly support the individuals and families in New Canaan experiencing food insecurity by providing a convenient, ongoing drop-off location for community members interested in contributing.
The Community Cupboard, located within the New Canaan YMCA’s main entrance, is accessible during the Y’s operating hours, making it easy for residents to give back throughout the year. Food donations are delivered directly by the Y to the New Canaan Food Pantry’s primary drop-off location, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, ensuring that local families in need receive timely and reliable support.
“We are proud to partner with the New Canaan Food Pantry to help address food insecurity in our town and provide a simple way for our community to donate food,” shared Margaret Riley, Executive Director at the New Canaan YMCA. “The Y’s Community Cupboard is another example of how our YMCA brings people together to care for one another and strengthen our community.”
The Y’s Community Cupboard accepts non-perishable, shelf-safe food items. Community members are encouraged to donate items such as canned goods, pasta, rice, sauces, peanut butter, cereal, spices, and other essential pantry staples.
