Silver Hill Names Gardner Director of Psychotic Disorders Program

Silver Hill Hospital, a nationally recognized leader in mental health care for adults and adolescents, has appointed Laura Gardner, MD, as Attending Psychiatrist and Director of its Psychotic Disorders Program. In this role, Gardner will oversee The Lodge Program, which provides specialized care for patients with psychotic disorders, which may include schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder with psychotic features, and substance psychosis. She will lead efforts to deliver highly personalized, intensive treatment plans tailored to each individual’s unique needs.

Gardner has more than a decade of experience providing evidence-based, person-centered psychiatric care for individuals with mental illness. She joins Silver Hill from Northern Westchester Hospital, where she served as Associate Director of Behavioral Health. Previously, she held multiple leadership positions at Montefiore Medical Center, including Medical Director of the Inpatient Psychiatric and ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) Service, and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

“Silver Hill brings together clinical rigor, interdisciplinary expertise, and a sustained commitment to individualized care,” said Gardner. “This program is well positioned to deliver comprehensive treatment for patients with complex psychiatric conditions, and I look forward to contributing to its continued growth.”

Her appointment marks a continued investment in Silver Hill’s specialized treatment programs for patients living with psychotic disorders, building on the hospital’s long-standing commitment to evidence-based, person-centered care.

“Dr. Gardner has led high-acuity services in major academic hospitals and has consistently advanced standards of care and training programs,” said Andrew Gerber, MD, PhD, Silver Hill President and Medical Director. “She understands how to build systems of care that are clinically sound, scalable, and aligned with patient needs. Her leadership will enhance our capacity to treat individuals whose disorders are unresponsive to conventional care, helping them reclaim meaningful and productive lives.”

Gardner earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She completed her adult psychiatry residency at Montefiore Medical Center and served as Chief Resident of Inpatient Psychiatry. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2017, she completed a visiting fellowship in electroconvulsive therapy at Columbia University.

On November 18, Gardner will co-lead a virtual discussion, Program Spotlight: The Lodge Program, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. ET. The event will provide an overview of Silver Hill’s residential treatment program for individuals with psychotic disorders. Attendees will hear from Gardner and Katie Cervone, LCSW, Clinician and Assistant Team Lead, about clinical approach, treatment structure, and how the team helps patients work toward stability and independence.
