Enjoy Peace, Quiet, and Clean Air | LETTER

Thank you to everyone who provided input regarding the proposed restrictions on leaf blowers in New Canaan and to the Town Council Bylaws and ordinances committee for an informative debate.

On Monday 3/2, the Bylaws and Ordinances Committee held a public hearing on its proposed leaf blower ordinance, which restricts the use of gas leaf blowers between Memorial Day and Labor Day and also sets time limits for using electric blowers.  The meeting drew strong public support and substantive discussion, and the committee voted to advance the proposed ordinance to the full Town Council.

This vote represents the first step in the process; the next step will be review and vote by the full Town Council , probably in late April, followed by a public hearing. Continued public input and engagement are critically important as the measure moves forward.  Most other communities in our area have already taken action to protect their residents from leaf blower pollution and noise, and it is time for New Canaan to catch up.   Please let the Town Council know that you want to enjoy peace, quiet and clean air during the summer and urge them to enact this ordinance.   Their email address is:  tcdistribution@newcanaanct.gov
