Dear Editor,
Gas-powered leaf blowers have become an almost constant presence in many neighborhoods. What used to be an occasional seasonal tool is now used year-round, often for hours at a time. The result is a level of noise that makes it difficult to enjoy our own homes and yards.
For many residents, the ability to sit on a patio, open a window, or enjoy a quiet afternoon has become increasingly rare. Remote workers trying to concentrate and families hoping to spend time outdoors often find their plans interrupted by the high-pitched whine of multiple blowers operating simultaneously.
Our community values quality of life. We invest in parks, preserve open space, and work hard to maintain the character of our neighborhoods. Reasonable restrictions on gas-powered leaf blowers would simply recognize that residents deserve the peaceful enjoyment of their homes.
Quieter electric alternatives exist and are becoming more common. Moving in that direction would help restore the quiet that so many residents value.
Sincerely,
Christina Fagerstal
New Canaan Resident
