Many Contribute to Success of July 4th Fireworks | LETTER

Editor:

On behalf of the Fireworks Planning Committee, I would like to thank all who supported the 44th Annual New Canaan 4th of July Independence Day Fireworks Celebration at Waveny Park by purchasing an entrance pass and attending.

We enjoyed spectacular weather and had a most memorable afternoon and evening with lots of family fun, great music, gourmet food and a fireworks display that was one of the best in recent memory. The residents of New Canaan are solely responsible for making this tradition possible by buying an entrance pass or making a donation. No taxpayer funds are used to stage our fireworks celebration. The Waveny Fireworks is the gift New Canaan gives itself.

The Committee would like to extend a hearty thanks and gratitude to the following organizations for whom this celebration could not be enjoyed:

• Fire Department & Fire Marshall

• NC Police Department

• Civilian Emergency Response Team (CERT)

• NC Volunteer EMS

• Emergency Response Team

• Volunteer Firefighters

• Public Works Department

• The Exchange Club of New Canaan

• The Benko Pool Crew

• Master of Ceremonies Dan Taylor

• The Town Band (2nd oldest in the US)

• The volunteers that sold passes in town
and at Stewart’s Market

As usual the NC Police department and CERT did a fantastic job of parking and exiting approximate 1,100 cars at Waveny and also managing the overflow to NCHS, South and Saxe school lots.

A special thank you to our longtime partner Walter Stewart’s Market for helping sell entrance passes in and at the exit of their store. Their contribution and cooperation with this event cannot be overstated.

And lastly, the Town of New Canaan Parks and Recreation Department, led by John Howe with a special shout out to Beatrice Watkins, Anna Krolikowski, Steve Dayton and Zach Philippas.

David Shea – New Canaan July 4th Fireworks Chairperson.
