More than 250 supporters turned out for a late-summer BBQ that doubled as a meet-and-greet for local candidates, with Congressman Jim Himes and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal dropping by to rally the crowd. Guests chatted under the trees over pulled pork, corn on the cob, and plenty of campaign talk about why local races matter, according to organizers.

Campaign manager Meredith Tobitsch said the “crowd was amazing,” with neighbors mingling and posing for photos with candidates for Town Council, the Board of Education, and the Board of Selectmen. Blumenthal offered a brief pep talk, telling attendees, “New Canaan can turn blue with a team like this one.”

The event also served as a quick introduction for first-time candidates and a chance for incumbents to outline priorities before the fall campaign season ramps up. Conversations ranged from schools and town finances to civility in public life, with supporters calling the gathering a friendly kickoff to the final stretch before Election Day.
