Small Change, Big Impact: Recycling Effort Feeds Families

L-R: Katie Owsley of Planet New Canaan delivers its donation to Marcella Rand from New Canaan’s Health & Human Services at the Redeemables Shed.

Planet New Canaan recently donated $205 to the New Canaan Food Pantry, thanks to the steady support of residents who drop off redeemable plastic  bottles and cans at the group’s Redeemables Shed, located beside the Swap Shop at the town’s Transfer Station.

The donation represents the growing success of this community-driven sustainability initiative, which encourages residents to recycle while supporting local causes. Each dime redemption adds up—demonstrating how small individual actions can have a big impact when a community joins forces.

Planet New Canaan plans to make additional donations as the Redeemables Shed continues to gain momentum. Residents are encouraged to participate by bringing aluminum cans and plastic beverage containers to the shed during regular Transfer Station hours.
