The New Canaan 250th Planning Committee is gearing up for a town-wide celebration of America’s semiquincentennial, with a series of local events planned from June 14 through Nov. 11, 2026.

Established by First Selectman Dionna Carlson and chaired by Administrative Officer Tucker Murphy, the 18-member committee brings together representatives from organizations across town. The group’s mission is to honor New Canaan’s history, community spirit and contributions to the nation’s story as the United States marks 250 years since its founding.

Local organizations are invited to take part by hosting activities that showcase New Canaan’s rich heritage, civic pride and patriotic spirit. Suggested events include exhibits, historical reenactments, lectures, walking tours of local landmarks, participation in the Fourth of July Parade, art inspired by American history and other town-wide celebrations. Additional information on statewide themes and opportunities is available at ct250.org.

All approved events will be featured on a dedicated New Canaan 250th calendar at newcanaan.info. Participating groups will also have access to the official New Canaan 250th logo for use in promotional materials.

Organizations interested in getting involved are encouraged to contact Murphy by May 1, 2025, at Tucker.Murphy@newcanaanct.gov or 203-594-3002 to discuss their ideas.
